ABOUT ME

Anthony S. Wirtz is a lyric tenor trained in both opera and musical theater. He has performed with Lamont Opera Theater at the University of Denver since the beginning of 2022. Most recently, he performed the role of Francis Flute in the company’s production of Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream as well as multiple roles in an operatic gala focusing on Bel Canto. He has also been actie with Opera Colorado as a chorus member, most recently in a production of Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer Anthony is also currently employed by St. John's Episcopal Church of Denver, CO, as a tenor section leader for their Vicars Choir. His next roles will be in a semi-staged production of W.A. Mozart's Impressario and Henry Purcell's Didi and Aneas this fall. In the spring, Anthony will perform the role of Ser Amantio di Nicolao (il notaio) in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi.
Anthony is a dual master's student at The Lamont School of Music where he is studying vocal performance and conducting. He recently graduated summa cum laude from Lamont with a BM in vocal performance. Previously in his studies, he won 3rd place for the central region of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition in 2005.
Opera Roles
In addition to his role as Francis Flute in Midsummer's Night Dream, Anthony has held leading and chorus roles in several other opera productions including L’enfant et les sortilèges, Les mamelles de Tirésias, The Little Prince, and several showcases and concerts throughout his professional career. He has also had limited roles in Bel Canto galas and will be in the chorus for Lamont's upcoming production of Dido and Aeneas by Purcell.
Musical Theater
Anthony has also performed many musical theatre roles such as the barbershop tenor Jacey Squires in The Music Man, as the Scarecrow in two separate productions of The Wizard of Oz, and as Mordred in Camelot. Mr. Wirtz has also played multiple roles in Annie Get Your Gun, and has acted in several workshops involving musical theater.
Concert Work
Anthony's concert work includes three consecutive years as a tenor soloist with Luther College’s productions of Handel’s Messiah, the tenor solo for Lamont’s production of Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living, and, most recently, the tenor soloist for Messe di Gloria by Puccini. Mr. Wirtz has performed many other concerts and recitals with a large range of art song in six languages.
